First Two Days

I’ve completed two full days of work now.  I’m team-teaching with the teacher I’m replacing.  Really, I’m just observing and chiming in when I can.  I’ve taught one class without any help.  It went pretty well.  I had three students that were about 10-12…I’m not sure how old exactly.  I don’t feel entirely comfortable yet, but I’ll get there.  My fellow teachers said that it can take a while and I shouldn’t worry about it for now.  I was hoping for a higher number of older students.  I have more kid lessons than anyone.  Kids are great, but older students are a lot more fun and the lessons are much easier.  I’ll get used to the kid lessons and they’ll be fine.  Hopefully, this job will get to be much more fun as I get better at it.

I miss home.  I’ve got to find some redeeming things to do outside of work to keep me happy.  I haven’t been able to work out except for one run.  I need to step that up.  I think I’m losing weight.  My hip/knee problem seems to get worse the more rest it gets.  I hear there’s a sports park nearby.  I’m definitely going to make use of that a lot.  A fitness club membership here costs around $100 per month and they aren’t open for very many hours.  My work would really get in the way.

My apartment isn’t fully organized yet, but It’s getting closer. I’m still working on the video tour.  I’m having some file-type issues, but I might be able to fix it soon.

  1. Hi Josh! I've found that the kid lessons have been tough for me too, but I've been improving with each one. I think it's like any new job...its always awkward/uncomfortable at first because we are trying to get into the routine of things. For example, today I had a 3 year old that kept running out of the class and into the lobby and I had to chase her down. How embarrassing! Haha. So you aren't alone! And I hope we'll be seeing you for New Years? Talk to you soon!
